Our qualified, caring, knowledgeable and experienced staff work with our parents to fully understand the needs of all children in our care to always ensure that they feel safe, loved and give them lots of attention. We also employ a key-worker system in each room to ensure that a familiar adult is always present.
A key-worker has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents.
At this stage in a child’s learning and development they are encouraged to become more independent in preparation for school. To assist with this we have a primary school teacher who attends the nursery every week to work with the children to ensure that when they leave they are fully prepared for a school environment.
Staff are good role models, encourage positive behaviour and are always on hand to help, support and give guidance to the children. Although we have a structured routine, our free-flow system means that they are still able to make their own choices and decisions as to what they are going to do throughout the day in a safe yet challenging environment. Activities at this age become more focused looking at recognition of numbers, letters, shapes and colours, and pencil control, pre-handwriting and reading.
We also encourage them to think and learn about other cultures, the natural world, healthy eating and bodies. We have a large outdoor play area to provide space for exercise.
We provide extensive activities for the children to enjoy including:
- Malleable play (playdough)
- Creative play
- Reading area
- Jigsaw & puzzles and games.
We also hold group activities to encourage turn taking, sharing and listening and to also help them gain confidence.
At the end of the year we have a graduation party to celebrate their time with us, and their moving on to school. We also work with the local school to help with the transition, and make it as easy for the children as possible.
Through our team of experienced and mature Early Years Practitioners and primary school teacher we are able to provide 15 hours per week of free nursery education. For full details please go to free nursery education details.
